The neighborhood is directly east of the Virginia Heights Historic District, bounded by Columbia Pike on the north, S George Mason Drive and S Dinwiddie Street on the South, Four Mile Run on the east and bordered by Route 7 and Falls Church on the west.
Columbia Forest contains 238 contributing buildings built in two phases from1942 to 1945. The two-story homes are constructed of paired brick or concrete block, designed in the Colonial Revival-style. Added later to the Columbia Forest community were a number of non-contributing townhouses and duplexes.
Columbia Forest was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.
