The area known today as Arlington Mill began with tracts of land acquired from 1724 to 1744. The neighborhood, named for a 1836 grist mill destroyed by fire, was established in 1947 at Park Glen and Magnolia Gardens and expanded over the years.

You’ll find single family homes in a variety of architectural styles in Arlington Mill, as well as townhomes, condominiums and apartment buildings. The western side of Colombia Pike near Carlin Springs Rd is comprised largely of apartment buildings, condo complexes, duplexes and commercial streets. Nearly half of Arlington Mill’s homes were built between 1947 and 1950, including Magnolia Gardens and Park Glen, Columbia Gardens and Columbia Heights, Greenbrier, Tyroll Hills and the 1950’s duplex houses. The neighborhood was nearly 95% complete by 1965, but several apartment buildings converted to condominiums or cooperatives between 1972 to 1982 and some new housing was added from 1984 to 2004, and iIn 2014, The Arlington Mill Community & Senior Center And Residences was constructed.
Arlington Mill holds a Saturday farmer’s market and a popular neighborhood amenity is Tyrol Hill Park, completed in 2018 on a 2-acre site adjoining Forest Glen.
Arlington Mill’s neighbors to the east, south and southeast are Barcroft, Columbia Forest and Douglas Park. The northern border of Arlington Mill adjoins Forest Glen, a smaller, single-family home neighborhood. Forest Glen and Arlington Mill have different civic associations, but are part of the same census tract and considered together by the county for issues.
The Arlington Mill neighborhood Civic Association was organized in 1975 as the Columbia Heights West Civic Association, renamed in 2015 to Arlington Mill.
Bounded by 7th Road S. to the north, Columbia Pike to the south, S. Arlington Mill Drive to the East and S. Carlin Springs Road to the west, Arlington Mill offers easy access to Bailey’s Crossroads, the Army Navy Country Club and National Landing.
